Starting a Family

Being almost five months pregnant and trying to plan a wedding was not easy. Thankfully I had my mother-in-law there to help me. I did not have my mom though as she had passed away from liver failure on December 6, 2011. It was just going to be a small wedding as I only had two months to plan it. Originally the wedding date was set for September 2012. One month after my baby was due. After much coaxing from friends the wedding date was changed to May 20, 2012.

With the help of family and friends I was able to have everything ordered and ready for the wedding in time. The biggest problems we ran into were the caterer got sick and we had to find a new way of providing food just weeks before the wedding, and another bride had booked her wedding for the same day at the same park. So the date was changed to the 19th. Fortunately that was the first problem we had run into and was able to change the date on the invitations before they were sent out.

Exactly two weeks before my wedding I turned on the news. The subject was the dangers of the rivers this time of year and how people were already falling in and drowning. The person being discussed was a mutual friend of most of my guests coming to the wedding and mine. The funeral was set for the same day as my wedding.

My wedding day had finally come. Everything was set up, everyone dressed. We took the pre-wedding shoot of me and my bridesmaids then loaded up and taken to the ceremony location. My father-in-law ran a branch of FedEx so I was delivered in one of his vans. I was so nervous I forgot my vows. My husband had written them out so he tried to help me along as I stood there speechless. I got through it though, even if I didn't say the whole thing, and we headed to the reception.

Being a wife is the most amazing feeling next to being a mom. Yes we argue and fight, but if I could do it over I would marry him again.

Almost two months before my daughters due date I started having contractions. I practically lived in the hospital for the next couple of weeks downing pills to try and keep her in longer. Three weeks before she was due she decided that she couldn't wait any longer. I was at home alone when my water broke. My parents were at work and my husband at school. I tried calling my husband but his phone was dead. The pain was so intense that I was cussing and hitting the walls. I remembered a video that I had watched that said if you went to the hospital and you could talk the doctor would send you back home. So obviously it wasn't that big of an emergency. A few hours later my husband showed up and ran to the back room to find me crumpled up on a big pile of towels. All I could think about was "a puddle? No, this is a lake!" He scooped me up and ran me to the hospital.

When we got there they took me to this little room and told me that they had to make sure that my water really did break and that I didn't just think it did. I looked at them like they were crazy. I even told them they were. If that wasn't my water than what else would it be?

As I was waiting for the results to come back my mother-in-law showed up. When the results came back as it was my water that broke I was rushed to a room where I was hooked up to machines that checked my baby to make sure she was okay through the deliver. After what seemed like hours but was only ten minutes according to the nurse I got my epidural. Instant relief. I couldn't feel a thing. I was happy and laughing again.

My father, sister, in-laws, husband, and his best friend were all there in the room with me. All of a sudden I looked at my mom and told her I thought the baby was coming out. She didn't say anything, just looked at me like I was crazy. How could I be so relaxed when the baby was coming out? A few minutes later I again told her that we needed a nurse cuz I knew the baby was coming. When the nurse arrived she shockingly looked at me and told me the head was sticking out and ran out to get the doctor. The doctor arrived and a few minutes later my daughter. Labor was so easy. I laughed through the whole thing. I even had them put a mirror up so I could see her coming out.

My daughter, Emma, was born August 8, 2012 at 9:28 pm. Weighing 6lb 3oz at a length of 18 1/2in. She is the most beautiful baby ever and I would not trade her for the world. She is now six months old tomorrow and is growing so fast. How quick she learns new things every day amazes me.

Right now I am living in a studio apartment with my husband and daughter. We will be moving at the end of the month into a two bedroom duplex. Neither of are employed at the moment, but are both searching for work. It is very hard to find jobs though. I am ten weeks pregnant with my second child who is due September 2, 2013. My sister-in-law is fourteen weeks pregnant with her first and we are so excited to be going through our pregnancies together.

So this is my little family and where we are in life now. I love my family so much and can't wait to see what the future holds for us.
